Valentina Pricopie

Dr Valentina Pricopie is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Sociology (Romanian Academy), where she coordinates the Social Europe Research Laboratory, and teaches at the Department of International Relations and Contemporary History at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj. She studied Journalism, Sociology and Communication at the University of Bucharest and the Université Lumière Lyon 2. Her research areas include media discourse, transformation of journalism, and social representations; Europe, the idea of Europe, and European memory studies; as well as the history of sociology and the sociology of human rights. Her current project is ‘Faraway Europe: Memory, Influences and Confluences [1939-1947’], focusing on the last European reflections in Romania before the instalment of the communist regime.

Her key publications include, with Cristina Damboeanu (eds.), Human Rights in Prison. A Sociological Approach (Bucharest, 2017); La Turquie en Europe? Construction discursive de l’altérité (Bucharest, 2012); Lire l’adhésion européenne à travers les médias roumains.
